In an ideal world, playstyle should affect only strategy, not playtime. Then aggro decks get nerfed, and the game becomes slow and tedious to play. The result is that the meta gets stale fast, because a 52% winrate aggro deck will make you climb a lot quicker than a 60% winrate control deck. Games where aggro wins tend to be short, while games where control wins tend to be a slog. I think something other online card games get consistently wrong is that they equate playstyle with match time. With very few games of I have "12 removal cards in my deck" but of course I can't draw one so now I lose.Īpologies for necro'ing, but could you expand on why? If you printed more interesting defensive cards etc I think you could actually open up design space by giving players more options more often.

Your constructed decks did what you designed them to do. 2 draw Duelyst the most skilled based card game on the market.
#WORLD EXPLORER DUELYST FULL#
I like one draw Duelyst and I had fun but given the full perspective,I can say that 2 draw Duelyst was easily the most fun I have playing Duelyst. I understand the reasoning behind the move but in hindsight they should picked to own its small niche instead of chasing casuals. They want quick games, randomness and super powerful "I win" cards to even the skill gap for the casual experience. Duelyst changes were about attracting the casual audience aka the heartstone crowd. So the devs picked less consistency in 1 draw and more random cards to give bad and new players a shot against more skilled players. The switch to 1 draw hit many of us like brick because the metagame before the switch only one faction was really not competitive.ĭuelyst was change for balance but not how many think, They(Devs) thought Duelyst was "too consistent" in the way that Chess is too consistent which means new players have no shot against good players.
#WORLD EXPLORER DUELYST TRIAL#
Imagine adding Highlander decks and Trial Decks in that mix So actually there was viable Normal Combo, Combo OTKO, Aggro, Tempo, Control. Aggro murder those decks and they were fair counter to few control decks that were around. If a person can collect the 5 or 6 cards and reach 10 mana point it was fine. And Duelyst was the first game where I played that OTKO decks felt fine. Saying "combo decks" is misleading, They had decks that used smaller combos(which had all kinda of different varieties that played differently) and they were OTKO decks. Control decks could work in 2 draw if we had some of the sticky minions and mass removal they created after the fact. That class also had full board clear combo. Eventually devs learned how sticky cards had to be in duelyst but at least one class had sticky minion its name was Sithlar Elder. Now playing big late game minions was hard because everyone had removal that is what made control decks not work well. As note I played hundred of games in 1 draw ONCE did game ever go game go to fatigue.Īsk the question if the game was just aggro and combos how was fatigue and stalemates happening? Don't believe the myth decks were so consistent in 2 draw that games regularly could reach late game because you always had your removal. The devs had to put in a rule to stop stalemate. I an not talking just starting fatigue, We are talking about both players ran out of cards fatigue. Since I am talking about Control, In 2 draw I played decks that could take people to fatigue. It was the control was clearly the best deck in the game and it crapped on everything so hard they had to nerf so other styles could work and the other players would be happy. So it is not like they were no control decks. Duelyst was still a green game that had a limited pool of cards and more importantly main "the Control Deck" that work well which was Magmar got nerf a couple times in Beta. Decks in 2 draw was limited combo and aggro? That feels a little misleading to me.

To each your own which one you prefer I can't change your mind on your preference BUT I have to comment when I see certain things being said. Now for the business at hand I am seeing comments about 1 draw versus 2 draw. So first thing I am happy that Duelyst might coming back in some form.
